Blender 2.5x and add-ons

Blender 2.53 (it is now 2.54, soon to be 2.55) introduced a new way of applying extensions (Python scripts basically). These are called Add-ons and they make playing around with scripts very easy to use and play around with. Blender 2.5x and add-ons are basically setup now in File > user preferences > Add-ons.

And there are a lot of them!

Blender tutorials

I love Blender, and with the advent of Blender 2.5 alpha 2 I have been working through lots of tutorials to get up to speed with its new features (of which there are many). Here is a list of tutorial sites that I would recommend to everyone who is serious about 3D modelling. Most of these you have to pay for, but they are well worth it.

Blender scripts

Blender is a fantastic program – I love it. It is an open source, 3D package that does so much more.

However, there are several scripts that you can use to really help you create things within Blender. These Blender scripts are also free, and are created in Python. Here is a list of Blender scripts that I would recommend everyone check out…

Blender 2.5 alpha

One of the applications that I keep an eye on is an open source app called Blender. I think it is a fantastic 3D application.

But it does a lot more – particles, games, physics, compositing, and so on.

Previously it suffered from a non-standard interface, and so was quite difficult for newbies to download and just run with it.

However there is a new version coming out, version 2.5, which is in alpha at the moment, and I would recommend anyone who is into 3D to download Blender 2.5 alpha and play with it.  Read more...
