Another often overlooked aspect of most Creative Suite apps is their ability to store preset panel combinations. Adobe call these workspaces and they can be extremely useful for rapidly loading specific panel sets or just carrying out general tidying up.

Workspaces can be found in two locations: under the View>Workspaces drop down menu or, in the Application bar on the right hand side.

I this example I’m using InDesign. The current workspace (Essentials) is displayed in the application bar next to the search field. Click on the downward triangle to see a list of preset workspaces (this is known as the workspace switcher).

How do you use your iPad or iPhone? With the iPhone being so popular, and now the iPad, I have found a couple of links that I wanted to share with everyone. These links made me laugh or go wow- and I will leave it to you to judge whether the last link is real or not.

One of our instructors and well known author David Powers, has just released his latest book “Adobe DreamWeaver CS5 with PHP” published by Adobe Press. The book is currently a very affordable £18.50 on Amazon, and is David’s 8th book on the subject of Web Development.  David has had some great reviews on his previous books published by Friends of Ed and we’re sure this new one from Adobe Press will prove to be just as popular.  He probably knows more about DreamWeaver than almost anybody we’ve ever met, and that’s saying something.  Congratulations David.

If you are using products such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, DreamWeaver, PHP or Blender then there are a number of new groups now available on LinkedIn which you might want to join.

For those who haven’t heard of LinkedIn before it is a business networking site with over 70 million members of all levels, and can be a great place to network, find new opportunities and learn from the community (plus it’s free).

The groups which have just gone live are listed below:

I’m starting to like Google Chrome, it’s faster than Firefox and starting to get some nice addons. One thing that really bugs me though is the way when it’s in full screen mode it sits above your Vista toolbar irrelevant of whether you have the toolbar set to be on top or not.

I know its a small thing but having to minimise Chrome every time you want to get to another app just gets irritating. There’s a lot of people commenting on this in various forums and hopefully Google will come up with a fix soon, but in the meantime just hit F11 twice when chrome is in full screen mode and it then behaves itself.

I came across a situation recently where the skype extension for firefox was messing up the layout of a page. Basically the page looked fine in all major browsers, however when you opened it up in firefox with the skype extension for firefox enabled it messed with the formatting of the page. If you have the same problem you can fix it simply by adding the following meta tag to your page:

<meta name=”SKYPE_TOOLBAR” content=”SKYPE_TOOLBAR_PARSER_COMPATIBLE” />

this effectively just blocks the skype extension from working. Once you have done this only phone numbers formatted with tags as follows will be recognised by the skype exxtension:
