With Adobe’s recent announcement that Creative Cloud is to now supersede Creative Suite, we thought it might be nice to take a look at some of the new features that have been publicly announced as coming in Creative Cloud, especially in the main design packages.

Photoshop CC

Some of the new features announced in Photoshop CC include:

  • Camera shake reduction – helps to reduce motion blur in your photos.
  • Smart Sharpen – analyses images to produce the best possible sharpening, while minimising halos and noises.
  • Adobe Camera Raw 8 means edits can be applied as a filter to any layer or file.

MAX_DayOne-300x194Probably one of the biggest announcements to come out of Adobe MAX so far, is the news that Creative Suite is being replaced with Creative Cloud. This means in the future you won’t buy licences of Creative Suite, instead you will subscribe to Creative Cloud to access all the same products.

So what does this mean? Here are some answers we have pulled together to try and help you get to grips with this change:

Do I still install the software?

Yes you still install all the products and they will be run locally on your machine. The products simply check back with Adobe’s servers once within every 30 day period to ensure your subscription is valid.

One of the most amazing new features of CS6 Illustrator is the new pattern tool. It’s surprisingly easy to use, so let’s go ahead!

The first thing I’m going to do is create the shape I want to use for the pattern and I’ve created just a very quick flower shape, which I have dragged and dropped into the swatches panel. Do make sure that your shape, you’re going to use, doesn’t already contain a pattern.

As many of you, who have been creating patterns know, creating a decent repetition in Illustrator has always been a lot of hard work. Trying to make your pattern not look too rigid, did require creating a number of copies of the object to be ‘patterned’, offset them, draw a rectangle around the area to be repeated and sending it to the back! If your rectangle was not absolutely perfect your repeat would not look right and you would have weird overlaps.

All this is now gone with the new Pattern Tool.

Ok, so you’ve just finished a vector masterpiece in illustrator, and now you want to paste it into photoshop to work some more magic onto it. However, you may notice when pasting with multiple smart objects that things are not aligned for you the way they were in illustrator. And you don’t want to re-align everything in photoshop do you. hm… problem? Not for us! Let’s get to work on transferring these objects into photoshop so each can be its own separate layer.

Creative Cloud is Adobe’s online service which will bring together many of the leading design and production applications together with a collaborative workspace and online storage facility.

Creative Cloud is a subscription service, membership of which allows access to all of the forthcoming Creative Suite 6 applications plus Adobe Muse (for building web sites without coding), Adobe’s Touch apps (such as Photoshop, Adobe Ideas etc for mobile devices) and 20gb of free storage.

Members will be able to manage and download their software applications from Creative Cloud. Note that this does not mean the apps are streamed over the cloud, InDesign, Photoshop etc are still downloaded and installed on your desktop.

shapeShadow

In this tutorial I will show you how to create realistic shadows in photoshop using one technique (as always in Photoshop, there is more than one way to skin a photo)

I will be using the same shape I was using in the Illustrator tutorial to demonstrate the techniques in this one. To get it into Photoshop I just copied and pasted it in as a Smart Object. (For more on Smart Objects, check out this previous tutorial)

Let’s start at the end; or even the middle. You might be working on a piece of artwork in Adobe Illustrator but then decide the colours need to be changed. Perhaps something is the wrong tone; perhaps all the places a certain colour appears need to be changed to a completely different colour; or maybe the entire artwork needs to be changed! Do not fret and don’t go reaching for your swatches! We will not be needing those. Instead we will be making use of Illustrator’s ‘Re-colour Artwork’ tool.

So you’ve got your hands on a shiny new iPad? Or perhaps Santa left you with some money that would go towards apps on iTunes? Or maybe you really just want something to enhance your workflow.  It doesn’t matter, this app needs to be checked out.
Imagine Adobe Illustrator, strip it down to its core features and add a layer of touch controls tuned for the iPad – now you have Inkpad. With some time you can create some beautiful vector works. I use it for only smaller pieces but, as shown below, the developers show below a mushroom drawn entirely from the app. In this post I will be discussing the pros and cons of this very interesting app as an enhancement to your workflow.
