With Adobe’s recent announcement that Creative Cloud is to now supersede Creative Suite, we thought it might be nice to take a look at some of the new features that have been publicly announced as coming in Creative Cloud, especially in the main design packages.

  • Smart Sharpen – analyses images to produce the best possible sharpening, while minimising halos and noises.

Adobe dropping Creative Suite, it’s all about Creative Cloud

MAX_DayOne-300x194Probably one of the biggest announcements to come out of Adobe MAX so far, is the news that Creative Suite is being replaced with Creative Cloud. This means in the future you won’t buy licences of Creative Suite, instead you will subscribe to Creative Cloud to access all the same products.

So what does this mean? Here are some answers we have pulled together to try and help you get to grips with this change:

Do I still install the software?

Yes you still install all the products and they will be run locally on your machine. The products simply check back with Adobe’s servers once within every 30 day period to ensure your subscription is valid.  Read more...

Build iPhone Apps with Flash at last!

Yes that’s right, you can now build iPhone apps with Flash using the functionality which was introduced in Flash CS5, following Apple’s announcement last night that it is relaxing the rules in it’s “App Store Review Guidelines”.

You might recall Adobe introduced this great new functionality earlier this year with Flash CS5, allowing Flash developers to build  apps in Flash and then compile them quickly and easily to run on an iPhone or iPad as native apps.  Apple then issued an announcement on almost the same day as the launch that it was changing it’s T’s and C’s so that apps compiled with 3rd party tools (such as Flash) wouldn’t be accepted into the iTunes Store.  There was quite a bit of noise around this at the time as Apple had basically squashed the single biggest new features in Flash CS5 in one go.  Read more...

One of our instructors and well known author David Powers, has just released his latest book “Adobe DreamWeaver CS5 with PHP” published by Adobe Press. The book is currently a very affordable £18.50 on Amazon, and is David’s 8th book on the subject of Web Development.  David has had some great reviews on his previous books published by Friends of Ed and we’re sure this new one from Adobe Press will prove to be just as popular.  He probably knows more about DreamWeaver than almost anybody we’ve ever met, and that’s saying something.  Congratulations David.

There has been a lot of talk lately about HTML5 and whether it would negate the need for Flash.  In fact this turned into a fairly mainstream discussion over the last few months after Steve Jobs made his position very clear, by refusing to support Flash on the iPhone, changing the T’s and C’s of the iPhone developer program and publishing an open “Flash Bashing” letter for all to read.  Read more...

.indd file type not recognised under Windows 7

I had an irritating problem with InDesign CS5 this week. It seems after uninstalling the CS4 version of InDesign, Windows 7 no longer recognised the default program for the .INDD file type.  I presumed this was because when I installed the CS5 version the installer left the default version set to CS4 still and then removing CS4 confused it (a glitch in the CS5 installer).  Read more...

If you haven’t heard already Apple has changed the terms and conditions of it’s developer program to stipulate that all applications must be written in native code, and that software created using “an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool” are prohibited.  Whilst this hits a number of products out there such as Titanium from Appcelerator it’s hard not to see it as a shot at Flash CS5 and it’s new built-in tool for creating iPhone apps, especially with the announcement made just a few days before the widely publicised CS5 launch.  Read more...
