In parallel to the recent launch of Creative Suite 6 and Creative Cloud Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite tools also received a significant update this month. This article from Creative Pro gives a good overview but here are some of the important highlights.

  • DPS now supports iPhone 3GS, 4 & 4s as well as 3rd and 4th generation iPods
  • Social sharing, via Twitter, Facebook and URL for DPS publications
  • Improved range of embeddable fonts

Support for iPhone and iPod (not available in DPS Single Edition) is a particularly interesting development as it also places a new overhead on content design. Designers and publishers now have a variety of new screen sizes and resolutions to consider for their digital publications. To help with that, InDesign CS6 features a few new tools:

Liquid layouts allow designers to specify a variety of rules to control page content as it is resized for different devices. The new Alternate layouts feature allows pages to be automatically duplicated and resized for each target device within the same InDesign document. Content edited in one layout, is automatically synchronised in the others.

To facilitate easier sharing of content across pages and documents. InDesign CS6 also features a new Content Collector function through which content can be dragged and dropped for future repurposing.

Colin Fleming, Adobe’s DPS evangelist, has a series of videos giving more details on all the new functions.
